Belfast Waste Fair 2010

The first week of June saw the return of the popular Waste Fair held in four public parks throughout the City of Belfast.
The Waste Fair is organised by Belfast City Council as part of Waste Week and around 850 young people from 23 schools took part in four workshops each day.
Pupils learned about minibeasts and composting, watched a waste themed magic show, played instruments made from recycled rubbish and made paper pots reusing old newspapers and then used them to plant beans using the compost made from brown bin material!
George Lyttle from Bryson Education who delivered the paper pot activity said “This years Waste Fair has been a great success. The children all seem to have really enjoyed themselves and got the message about more sustainable ways of dealing with our waste.”
He added “Giving young people the opportunity to use the compost made from the stuff they put in their own brown bins at home is a great way of reinforcing the link between what we send off for recycling from our houses and the new product it gets made into.”
