Recycle Week 2010 - Recycle Your WEEE

This year’s Recycle Week (21-27th June) is the perfect opportunity to get your old WEEE recycled. (WEEE stands for Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment.)
Why not have a look in your drawers, loft, cupboards, sheds and garage and clear out all your old, broken, unused and unwanted electrical goods.
Three out of four of us have at least one old or unused electrical item in our home which could be reused or recycled to save precious resources and many electrical items contain valuable and/or dangerous materials.
On a recent school visit I asked pupils how many old mobile phones they had at home. Almost all had one and others had up to 5 unused mobiles lying in drawers or under the bed!
Another often overlooked item for recycling are batteries. New legislation means most shops selling batteries now provide a collection bin for recycling old ones and in some areas batteries can by recycled through your recycling service at home.
In the past year Bryson Recycling have collected over 1 million batteries for recycling from homes across Northern Ireland!
So why not have a look for yourself and give your old electricals a new lease of life!
