Programmes Available

Bryson Education currently offers education programmes on energy efficiency and waste. The energy efficiency programme is delivered Province wide, but you need to contact us for availability of the waste programme.

Energy

The Energy Efficiency programme is Curriculum linked and available as a one hour classroom presentation for Key Stage Two classes. During the presentation the pupils learn about how most of our electricity is generated, problems this causes, alternative sources of electricity and how we can reduce the amount of energy we use in our homes and at school.

Rethink Waste

In 2010, Bryson Education along with Tidy NI were successful in obtaining funding from the Department of the Environment through the Rethink Waste programme to run a pilot waste minimisation programme.

The project was delivered to 21 primary schools and raised awareness of waste issues and the waste hierarchy emphasising the importance of prevention and reuse before recycling and finally looking at the problems and issues associated with disposal. The project included two workshops in each school – one on reducing waste paper and the other in reducing plastic. This resulted in a reduction of waste going to landfill and a consequent fall in greenhouse gas emissions. A major aspect of the project was the implementation of an Environmental Management System - Eco-Schools.

Following the success of the pilot, the partners decided to expand the project in 2011 to include 42 schools across Northern Ireland, both primary and post primary.
